“Classic ‘Red Dead Redemption’ to be Released on PS4 and Nintendo Switch”
Red Dead Redemption, the original 2010 release, is finally coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, putting an end to years of speculation. It is important to note that this is not the highly anticipated remaster. The western-themed third-person shooter will be available for purchase on August 17th, coinciding with the birthday of the legendary lawman and huckleberry advocate, Doc Holliday.
This is the digital version, but the physical release will be released on the 13th. October Although this is a direct port, the release includes the Undead Nightmare DLC, a zombie campaign that was added to the Game of the Year edition back in the day. The combo pack costs $50, which is a lot for a direct port of a 13-year-old game that hasn’t been updated to allow for 4K visuals or a faster frame rate. Also, the ports don’t support multiplayer.
As for a possible next-gen update, that seems to be dead in the water. Kotaku reports that Rockstar has shelved the project after the debacle with the inferior performance of the GTA Trilogy remake, which was a completely buggy mess. The company is focusing on new titles, such as the upcoming GTA VI, rather than new versions.
For the uninitiated, the original Red Dead Redemption is both a spiritual successor to an older game called Red Dead Revolver, but actually takes place after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2. It follows former outlaw John Marston as he rounds up some of the gang. members who are central to the sequel. It’s still a sprawling open-world adventure game like RDR2, but with a more detailed narrative and structure. There’s no swimming, which is a bummer, but you can still tie people to train tracks, which is the opposite of constipated.
